T’s Golf Picks

Terry Heller, ex-owner of CWC gave us the “rundown” of local golf courses for new guests.   This is not to recommend one course over another, simply a subjective opinion to help you choose the one best suited for what you’re looking for in golfing FUN.  There are many more courses within an hour drive, these are just a few local picks that Terry has played personally.

 Many local courses have annual spring fling discounts first week in June and fall discounts in September!  For the serious golfers, you might consider scheduling vacation next year around this time to take advantage of all the area golf specials.

Tianna Country Club - (approx. 7 miles).  Well established 18 hole course.  Nicely manicured lawns with a signature #2 hole (a par 3 over a little pond).  If your better half will only allow you 4 hours to play, drive fast!   It’s a long course and is excellent for the LONG BALL HITTER.  Call for tee times.  218-547-1712  Highway 34 between Akeley and Walker.

 Long Bow Golf Club- (approx. 15 miles)  18 hole course tucked into the woods.  As it’s newer, it’s not as crowded and easier to get a tee time.  Great for LAST MINUTE TEE TIMES.  218-547-4121 (877-881-4653) 6 miles north of Walker on Highway 371, then east on Long Bow Trail.

Wedgewood Golf Course - (approx. 15 miles) 9 hole course.  Very easy.  Great for BEGINNERS or KIDS.  May not need to call for tee time.  218-547-2666  5 miles north of Walker on Highway 371.

 Headwaters Country Club - (approx. 20 miles)  Established 18 hole course in good shape.  Little easier and shorter than Tianna.  Call for tee time.  218-732-4832  2 miles north on County Road 1 (Central Ave) Park Rapids.

 Eagle View Golf Course - (approx. 25 miles) Nice 18 hole course.  Only “executive” course around (par 64).   218-732-7102 Highway 71 north Park Rapids.

Blueberry Pines Golf Club - (approx. 28 miles)  18 hole course.  Excellent food at the Sunday brunch or any time at their restaurant & bar.  Pretty grounds, lots of water features, a creek runs through it.  Challenging and fun.  218-564-4653  36191 Highway 71 Menahga.
