Ex-Owners of CWC Swap Stories

On September 4, 2016, we hosted the 4th Annual CWC (Kris Krupp) Pizza Cookoff in the lodge.

It just so happened that Terry Heller (guy in the yellow cap in pic above), Crow Wing Crest Lodge owner from 1987 - 2001 (when Big John and I bought it) stopped by to say "hi" and join us in some good food.

It ALSO just so happened that Don & Judy Walters, owners of CWC from 1983 - 1987 (who sold resort to Terry Heller & Connie Converse) had booked Cabin #16 for the week and joined us for some good eats and socializing - the first time they'd visited in over 30 years!

As if THAT wasn't enough nostalgia and 'coming togetherness', Jim Petersen (back row far left in pic above) nephew of Marv & Edna Richmond (owners of CWC from 1946 -1969)  has been a current repeat guest in Cabin #19 for last decade during Labor Day week.  He joined the memory table, I brought out the vintage brochures and historic photos and we all delighted in joys and frustrations of operating a Mom & Pop northwoods vacation resort:  in particular, this one  🙂

(I brought my Kindle Fire over and taped the conversation for 1 hour and 52 minutes! )

Don Jr. (and Mariana) flew out from the east coast (Delaware) with his folks (from Virginia) for the week - he had tales to tell of being a teenage free labor worker at the resort.   (Scrubbing boats and cleaning cabins is hard work - although the bikini-clad girls each week were a definite perk as a kid living at the resort from age 13 - 17, heh.)

LOL - I am in mid-chew, Terry's stuffing the last of a Hawaiian piece of pizza in his craw, and Don and Big John are enjoying Judy's 'stink-eye' (aimed at her husband over some comment or another) ha! A good time was had by all. -- Kim, CWC
